Age restriction: explicit descriptions of sex

The audiobook for The Kiss Quotient was recommended to me by Scribd. I think it was a book of the day the cute cover persuaded me to give it a try. I don't think I even read what this book was about until I was a few hours into the audiobook, that's how much I trusted the design on the picture. More and more I'm realising I really don't mind going into books without knowing anything. I love being caught by surprise from the very beginning and prefer when the characters tell me the story rather than a description on the back.

The Kiss Quotient is a story about Stella, a math-genius and Michael, an escort and an unfulfilled clothes designer. They meet in an unconventional way - Stella hires him to help her learn everything there is to know about sex and, for her the most importantly, how to please a man between the sheets. They both just want to get the job done until feelings disturb their agreement.

Before picking up this novel, I've never read a book with the main character suffering from autism, in this case, Asperger's. To be honest, my knowledge of this subject was minimal, only some basics. It was really interesting to see that point of view of a person with autism, get into their head and learn about some of the details. Even though this is just a cute romance book, it was quite eye-opening. I'm also really happy to see some more diversity in romance adult books when it comes to the love interest; Michael is Vietnamese and Swedish.

The beginning of the book swept me off my feet! Everything from the plot and the characters to the writing style was just perfect. I was excited to keep coming back to the audiobook and happily chose it over music on my way to class. Although I admit that reading those spicy sex scene while in public felt a little wrong, haha. Don't get me wrong, there were executed brilliantly with the right amount of description and emotion, they just appeared in the wrong times for me.

As you can see by the rating, my opinion of the book changed quite firmly. When I reached the halfway point of the book I started getting a wee bit bored and that feeling multiplied with time. The characters and their inability to just talk to each other and figure things out like proper adults got on my nerves a lot. I really wanted them to grow a pair and the book to finally come to an end. It was quite obvious how it's gonna turn out and waiting for them to get there was tiring.

Overall, I'm glad I chose this book and gave it a try. It is the first part of a series, from what I know the second book follows one of the side characters. If it's on Scribd I'll definitely give it a try in the near future!

  1. I really like reading the books without reading the description, too 😍! It is so much better for the author and characters to tell their own stories instead of some description on the back cover!

I love the fact the book introduces not-so-easy topics such as Asperger's and that people can normally live with that illnesses. I am somehow disappointed that the book changed so much during the reading. It is always sad when something this good turns mediocre.

I love you review ❤️! I would love to read more of them in the near future!
